Considering Commercial Solar in Canberra? Try Our Unique Approach

Is your business shopping around for commercial solar in Canberra but hesitant to make the full investment in installing solar arrays? While solar power and other renewables are attractive to many businesses, for the potential electricity savings they offer as well as for simple environmental sustainability reasons, they can also carry a significant upfront cost that not all small or medium businesses can afford. At AG Energy, we offer an alternative solution that provides businesses such as yours with commercial solar panels in Canberra with zero upfront costs.

We take care of all maintenance during the contract period, and continually monitor your Solar System's performance to identify any issues as and when they occur.

What Sets AG Energy Apart Regarding Commercial and Industrial Solar in Canberra?

What makes us so different from other companies that do commercial and industrial solar in Canberra? Specifically, how are we able to offer zero-cost installations to SMEs when most solar providers require a significant upfront investment? Here are the key differentiators that make us unique in the solar space:
  • We operate on a Power Purchase Agreement basis. Our key difference is that, when we do a new commercial solar panel installation in Canberra, we offer that service based on something called a Power Purchase Agreement (or PPA). Under the PPA model, you sign a contract with us, and we install the solar system on your premises for free. For the duration of the contract, we retain ownership of the solar array—hence the no-cost installation. We will then essentially take on an electric company role, selling your business the energy generated by your solar system. The contract is structured in such a way that, by the time the PPA agreement has lapsed, the client owns the solar array (not unlike a rent-to-buy or rent-to-own agreement).
  • We make it so that our clients still save money on electricity. With a typical solar installer, your business pays the full upfront cost of buying and installing the solar arrays, but then doesn’t have to pay anything for the electricity the system generates. Our arrangement is attractive to SMEs especially because we not only remove that significant upfront cost, but we also sell solar electricity to your business for lower rates than what you are currently paying your electricity company. The PPA model, in other words, provides the best of both worlds: no upfront investment, monthly savings on electricity and ultimate ownership of your system.
  • We take on the responsibilities of ownership. Another big benefit of working with us for your commercial solar installation in Canberra is that, for the duration of the PPA, we retain all responsibilities of panel ownership. If repairs or maintenance for your panels are necessary, that responsibility falls on us, not you. We also don’t do lock-in contracts, which means you can terminate your PPA at any point — if you are moving or selling your business, for instance — and we will remove the system with no penalty to you.

Common Misconceptions People Have About Commercial Solar in Canberra

As a commercial solar company in Canberra, we have heard all the common misconceptions about solar power and its potential for the future. In many cases, these misconceptions are the only things holding a client back from taking the solar plunge. With that in mind, here are a few misconceptions to ignore as you think about implementing solar at your business:
  • Solar panels don’t last. In the past, solar systems didn’t have great longevity, which made them a questionable investment. That’s not the case anymore: solar technology has continued to improve with each passing year and now carry impressive lifespans of around 25 years.
  • The savings provided by solar aren’t significant. Again, this misconception results from infant solar technology from years ago continuing to affect how people think today. Not only have solar systems become more adept at capturing the energy of the sun and converting it into usable electricity, but Australia’s electricity costs have also risen dramatically. These two factors are creating an ever-widening margin for cost savings by implementing and utilising commercial solar.
  • Solar installations make properties less desirable. One concern among property owners is that solar panels are an unwanted aesthetic that makes it harder to sell a property. In truth, solar technology is becoming more compact and visually unobtrusive. Meanwhile, consumer sentiment for solar is improving quickly, to the point where solar boost property value because it’s something that buyers want.
